Starting balance and scaling your trade size
Starting balance of the test
The test works in percentages. A $500 winner on a $10,000 backtest is a 5% win, and it counts as 5% on every account size. Set Starting balance of the test to the balance your backtest or account started with, so those percentages are right.
Scale trade size
Scale trade size (×) multiplies every trade. 0.5 tests half your size, 2 tests double. This is the quickest way to see how sensitive a strategy is to risk:
- Too big, and the daily or maximum loss ends attempts early.
- Too small, and attempts run out of time or never reach the target.
Results show a tip when a different size would clearly do better.
Tip: losing streaks matter more than averages. If ten losses in a row at your size would breach the maximum loss, the size is too big for that account.
