Install and run on TradingView

Updated 28 Oct 2026

Install

  1. Open a chart of the strategy's market and timeframe.
  2. Open the Pine Editor at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Open the .pine file in a text editor (Notepad, TextEdit), select everything and copy it.
  4. In the Pine Editor, create a new strategy, replace everything in it with what you copied, and press Save.
  5. Press Add to chart.

The Strategy Tester tab then shows the backtest on TradingView's data.

Settings to check

Open the strategy's settings (the cog on the chart) and check:

  • Broker server time zone: used for the trading day, your trading hours and the Friday close.
  • Units per lot, lot step, minimum and maximum lot: match your symbol (forex is 100,000 units per lot; indices and metals differ).
  • Trade from: the date the backtest starts trading.

Good to know

  • TradingView backtests have no ticks inside a bar, so the prop guards are checked at each bar close. They can act a little later than on MT5.
  • For a set, each market's script runs on its own chart and guards its own market only: TradingView scripts can't see each other.
  • To trade live from TradingView you need a broker connected to TradingView, or alerts sent to your platform. Many prop firms don't support this, so check with yours.
