My bot isn't taking trades

Updated 28 Oct 2026

Work down this list; most problems are one of the first four.

  1. Automated trading is off. MT5: the Algo Trading button must be green and Allow Algo Trading ticked in the bot's settings. MT4: AutoTrading on and Allow live trading ticked. cTrader: the instance shows as running. NinjaTrader: Enabled is ticked.
  2. A guard has stopped it. Daily loss, maximum loss, the profit target or the best-day stop may have been reached. The platform's log says so (MT5: Experts tab; MT4: Experts tab; cTrader: Log; NinjaTrader: Log tab). Daily stops reset at the next trading day.
  3. Outside trading hours or days. Check section 5's hours and the time zone (Trading hours and time zones).
  4. Wrong chart or symbol. Use the strategy's market and timeframe. For sets, every symbol must exist at your broker with exactly that name.
  5. The rules simply haven't been met. Run the builder's preview on recent prices: if it takes no trades either, the rules are too strict.
  6. Not enough history. Indicators need past bars to warm up. Scroll the chart back or lower Bars of history used to warm up indicators.
  7. Lot size too small or too big. If risk per trade works out below your broker's minimum lot, or above the maximum, the order is refused. The log shows the broker's message.
  8. Another copy is running with the same magic number or label on the same account.
