Adding indicators: templates, formulas and your own

Press Add an indicator in section 2 and choose how:

With a template

Pick a built-in indicator (moving averages, RSI, ATR, MACD, Bollinger Bands, Stochastic, ADX, SuperTrend, Ichimoku and many more, plus price-action tools such as market structure, fair value gaps, order blocks and liquidity sweeps) and set its settings.

Write a formula

Write your own indicator in a few lines, for example:

input period = 14
fast = EMA(close, period)
output strength = fast - EMA(close, period * 3)

The builder checks the formula as you type and lists the lines it makes. Press Formula guide next to the box for every function you can use. Formulas give the same numbers in the builder and on every platform.

Your own indicator

Use an indicator you already have on your platform (bought, downloaded or written yourself). See Using your own indicators: strategies that use one can't be previewed in the builder, because only your platform can calculate it.

Higher timeframes

Each indicator can use the chart's timeframe or a higher one, for example a daily EMA on an hourly chart. Values from a higher timeframe only change when that higher bar has closed.

My indicators

Use Save to My indicators on a formula or your own indicator to reuse it in other strategies (you need to be signed in). Export as a chart indicator turns a formula into an indicator file for your platform, so you can see it on your charts.
