Finding better settings with the optimiser

Updated 29 Oct 2026

The Optimise box under the preview tries many versions of your strategy and shows which settings would have passed the most prop challenges.

Using it

  1. Tick up to three settings to vary (indicator periods, stop and target, break-even, part profit, entry order offset and so on).
  2. Set From, To and Step for each. The builder starts you off around the current value. Up to 300 combinations at a time.
  3. Press Find better settings. It uses the same prices as the preview: real prices (with a pass), your own price file, or practice prices.
  4. Press Use these on a row to put those settings into your strategy, then run the preview to see the whole period.

How it judges

  • Every combination runs on the first 70% of the prices.
  • The best few are replayed against every prop firm account, the same check as the preview (with 400 runs per account to keep it quick), and ranked by how many they'd pass.
  • Then they run on the last 30%, which the search never saw. That's the Unseen prices column.

Don't fool yourself

Try enough combinations and one will look great by luck. Prefer settings that:

  • also made money on the unseen prices,
  • sit among neighbours that did well too (a period of 20 beating 15 and 25 by a mile is a warning sign),
  • had plenty of trades.

Results on practice prices mean nothing: they're made up. Use real prices or your own file.
